Staircase Painting in Sevenoaks

This project of staircase painting in Sevenoaks was an exciting one for Smith Nicholson. It was large scale and all the woodwork was either solid oak or oak veneer.

The client specified Little Greene throughout most of the project, which we were more than happy to use. The Little Greene “intelligent” range is a beautiful paint to work with – easy to apply, gives an unbeatable finish and is extremely durable. Ideal paint for a hallway.

We decided to spray all the woodwork using a Tritech T5. This allowed us to complete the process in a fraction of the time it would’ve taken to paint by brush, and gave a flawless finish. Great news for our client!

All the flooring was protected with corrugated plastic or adhesive plastic for carpets. This reduced trip hazards in the client’s home and completely eliminated any chance of any paint coming into contact with the carpet. All furniture and decorative features were removed from the area we painted prior to beginning.

As with any new build property, settlement occurs in the form of cracks and ‘pops’ in the plaster where plaster pops from screw holes in the plasterboard. This is always most common with ceilings, especially where weight is applied above. This particular property was two years old, so we were confident that any settling would’ve happened already. All cracks and pops were dealt with appropriately using a range of fillers and techniques suited for the job. We painted the ceilings using an ultra flat matt paint, so eliminate any flashing or roller/brush marks for a flawless paint finish.

All the walls throughout this project were treated to Little Greene intelligent matt. As professional painters and decorators, we were very glad of this specification by our client. As with the ceilings, all the walls had a lot of prep work done to them. Good preparation is always key to a high-class finish. The walls in any hallway always bear the brunt of traffic in and out of the house and often get marked and stained. With durable paint like this, the walls can be cleaned without tarnishing the finish.

Completing the woodwork was the biggest part of this project. Every corner and hole had to be filled and sanded. We primed the oak with a tannin blocking primer, then added a coat of adhesion primer. For the top coats, we used a flat enamel based paint, which is almost odourless. Ideal for our clients with little ones. Each coat had been sanded before the next, ensuring a flawless finish.

All the doors were removed, prepared and sprayed on-site using Little Greene’s intelligent eggshell.
